Desert Hills is not a single community — it is a collection of six 55+ sub-communities (Desert Hills I through VI) located in southwest Green Valley. Each sub-section has its own HOA and character. Desert Hills I is primarily townhomes. Desert Hills II is the largest sub-section and the most active in the resale market. Desert Hills III through VI offer a mix of townhomes, patio homes, and single-family detached residences.

Most Desert Hills residents have access to Green Valley Recreation (GVR) facilities, which include 13 recreation centers, 5 fitness centers, 13 swimming pools, tennis, pickleball, bocce ball, and walking trails. Desert Hills III West requires a separate GVR membership rather than including it automatically. HOA fees vary by sub-section, ranging from approximately $48/month to $570/year.

The public Desert Hills Golf Club is adjacent to several sub-sections, making this area attractive to golfers who prefer a pay-as-you-play option rather than a private club. Prices range widely across the six sub-communities, from the $195,000s for townhomes to over $600,000 for larger single-family homes.
